What You Will Find At Otter Falls Lodges

Otter Falls is a very popular lodge site in Devon. It mixes holiday cottages and lodges superbly and the vast majority of the reviews are glowing with numerous repleat vistoers.

The lodges mix a more traditional cabin look from the outside with a more contemporary feel inside. Some have been recently renovated on the inside to keep up with the latest trends.

The lakeside lodges are around the lake and allow fishing directly in front of them. The fishing looks good and there are a lot of catch reports. It’s a great place to get kids into fishing with the simplicity of fishing in front of the lodge making it effortless. You can read all the details about fishing here.

The pack has an indoor swimming pool for guests to use – perfect if you catch a rainy day! There is a tennis court onsite if you feel like being active with a children’s play area by the court.

If you’re feeling peckish head to the on-site Tickled Trout Bistro. You’ll find a range of pizzas, burgers and kids meals on offer.

What Else Will You Find On Site

The fishing at Otter Falls is top-notch for a lodge park.

There are 3 lakes on site which all have carp in them and all have lodges by them –

Top Lake

This is the one to book if you are looking for the bigger carp. It has carp to 27lb and a good head of carp including some ghostys. The lakes have natural waterfalls so are not heavily weedy which makes fishing them a lot easier!

2nd & 3rd Lakes

These were originally stocked with rainbow trout but have become coarse lakes over time. They have had some stock coming from the top lake overflow that has naturally trickled down. 10-12lb carp are becoming more regular in these lakes.

There has also been a stocking of carp in the lower lake a few years ago and these are regularly reporting double figures now.

The middle lake has 2 lodges and the bottom lake has 3 lodges. These are nice and quiet for a spot of peaceful coarse or carp fishing.

Rod hire – Rod and tackle hire is available, please enquire with them directly before you go. This is a great help if you don’t need to load all your gear into the car too.

Rules – The rules are short and sweet, which is what we like. carp care is key so barbless hooks only and take an unhooking mat. There are no bite alarms so it’s swing tips all the way (Or just watch your bait runner). It is recommended that you fish with pellet feeders and that is how I would personally approach such a water.

I have had a read over all the reviews that mention fishing and the reports are mixed. Some describe the fishing as great and some say it could be better, or they need more fish! From this, I’d say it’s not a simple water to just turn up, chuck a rod out and keep catching.

Stick to what works best, find some nice clear spots and fish those. When I go on a fishing lodge break I like to maximise the opportunity- You are right on the water so bait and bait some more. I keep my spots going even when we are off out for the day. I pre bait when I get up and before I go to bed. This technique never lets me down!

An on-site restaurant is always a bonus when you want lazy days in the hot tub. The Tickled Trout is a laid back place that does pizzas and burgers. Stroll over after a tough day fishing for a nice meal and relax. The restaurant also does children’s food.

The lodges are all located around the lake. There are holiday cottages and restaurant on-site, these are at the bottom of the map. The tennis court and play areas are also there.

The lake that is described as having the largest lake is the top one that has lodges on either side. The lodge right by the island looks like a great spot.
