Our take

Budget cabins you bring your own bedding to, beside a big-carp day ticket fishery. Crystal Lakes is a campsite and day ticket fishery first. The two Carp Cabin Retreats cabins are basic, with beds, a kitchenette, a TV and a private toilet, and you bring your own bedding. The Mirror cabin comes with its own swim. The fishery lists carp to 36lb and sells night and 24 hour tickets for the big lake. Neither site says fishing is included in the cabin price; there is a £8 site resident day ticket.

Good for

  • Anglers on a budget wanting to sleep by the water
  • Night sessions without a full bivvy set-up
  • Families happy with a campsite feel

Think twice if

  • You want linen, a hot tub or lodge comforts: the cabins are basic and bedding is not provided
  • You might cancel late: no refunds within 3 days of arrival

Choose Mirror for your own swim

The Mirror cabin has a double bed and its own private swim; the Common cabin has three single beds and sits steps from the lake. Both run a three nights for the price of two offer.
