Fishing Lodges in Herefordshire

Herefordshire is one of those counties that quietly has a lot going for it when it comes to fishing holidays. The River Wye runs through the county and there are also several established stillwater fisheries scattered across the countryside. Over the years a number of these venues have added cabins, lodges or holiday cottages, which makes it possible to stay close to the water while fishing.

The lakes in Herefordshire are generally traditional coarse fisheries rather than heavily stocked commercial carp venues. That tends to suit anglers looking for relaxed fishing rather than crowded day-ticket waters. Many of the venues sit in quiet rural locations with farmland or woodland around them, which adds to the atmosphere of a short fishing break.

Fishing lakes with accommodation in Herefordshire

Below are some of the fisheries in Herefordshire where accommodation is available either on site or directly beside the lakes.

Countryside Cabins

Location: Moreton Jeffries, Hereford, Herefordshire
Accommodation: Six waterside log cabins
Fishery type: Private carp fishing lakes for residents only
Lakes: Five carp fishing lakes
Setting: 650-acre working farm
Main species: Carp to just over 30lb, plus silver fish

Countryside Cabins is one of the better fishing accommodation options in Herefordshire. The site is set on a large working farm and has six waterside log cabins spread across five carp lakes, which gives it more of a proper fishing holiday feel than a standard cottage stay with a lake somewhere nearby.

What I like about it is that the fishing is for residents only, so it should feel much quieter than a normal day-ticket venue. The lakes hold carp over thirty pounds as well as silver fish, and the whole setup looks geared towards anglers who want a peaceful few days on the bank without loads of traffic around them.

Carp Cabin

Location: Stretton Sugwas near Hereford, Herefordshire
Accommodation: Shepherd’s hut for two adults
Fishery type: Private fishing lake on site
Lake: 2-acre fishing lake
Main species: Carp, chub, roach, bream, perch, barbel and silver fish
Setting: Quiet countryside site near Hereford

Carp Cabin is a much smaller scale option, but it is a good one to include because it gives you something a bit different from the larger fisheries. It is a shepherd’s hut beside a two-acre fishing lake, so it looks more suited to a quiet couple of days away than a big fishing complex.

This sort of place works well if you want simple accommodation right by the water without overcomplicating things. The lake has a mix of species rather than being purely about carp, which makes it more of a relaxed fishing break than a serious campaign venue.

Docklow Pools – Adults only

Location: Docklow, north Herefordshire
Accommodation: Self-catering lodges on site, from 1 to 3 bedrooms
Fishery type: Multi-lake coarse fishery with river fishing available
Lakes: 14 lakes for members and residents, with 3 day-ticket pools
Setting: 110 acres of countryside
Extra fishing: Private stretches of the River Wye, River Lugg and River Teme

Docklow Pools is probably one of the better known fishing holiday venues in Herefordshire. The site includes several lakes and a number of self-catering lodges overlooking the water. Because the accommodation sits right beside the lakes it is easy to fish early mornings and evenings without needing to travel anywhere.

The lakes themselves hold a mix of coarse fish and the venue has enough variety to suit anglers who enjoy steady fishing rather than purely targeting one specimen water.

Whitney Court Fishery – Fishing holiday on the Wye

Location: Whitney-on-Wye, Herefordshire
Accommodation: Nearby accommodation available on the estate / in the village
Fishery type: River fishery on the Middle Wye
Water: Approximately 3 miles of mostly double-bank river fishing
Main species: Salmon, trout, grayling, chub, dace and pike

Whitney Court sits close to the River Wye and offers one of the better known stretches of river fishing in the county. It is a different sort of venue to the stillwater lodge fisheries, but it is still a useful one to include because anglers looking at fishing holidays in Herefordshire often want river options as well.

The setting is a strong point here, and it is the sort of place that will appeal more to anglers who enjoy proper river fishing than commercial-style lake venues.
