Private Fishing Lakes With Accommodation in the UK

For me, the ultimate fishing break is to have a private lake for a week or a weekend. There are not many of them around, so we have scoured the country trying to find them all and round them up here. If you book one, be sure to let us know what it is like!

The short answer: a private fishing lake with accommodation means the lake comes with where you sleep. At some venues the whole lake is yours for the stay. At others it is shared only with the few other cabins on site, with no day ticket anglers. Below are 17 UK venues that offer one or the other, checked against each venue’s own website and angling listings.

Secluded Fishing Lodge, Dorchester, Dorset

Timber lodge beside a shallow stream with a wooden footbridge at Secluded Fishing Lodge, Dorchester

One for trout anglers rather than carp anglers. The lodge sits beside the Sydling Brook and Langford Lake on the Wrackleford Estate, about three miles from Dorchester. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout and sold to one party at a time, so no other rods fish it on your day.

These venues have more than one unit on the water, but a group that books them all, or hires the lake, gets the fishing to itself.

Five spring-fed lakes at Higher Clovelly in North Devon, with mirror and common carp to 34lb. One large lake can be hired exclusively for a minimum of 48 hours, which suits a group of anglers. Lodges sleep from two to eight, Ravensfield House sleeps twelve, and dogs are welcome.

Leven Park Lake, East Yorkshire

Three cabins, Mallard, Kingfisher and Swan, share one lake in eight acres of woodland and gardens at Leven, near Beverley. Waterside Fishing Lodges, Lincolnshire

Two lodges, Kingfisher and Willow, on a residents-only lake at Keal Cotes near Spilsby, run by the same family for 25 years. It is a mixed coarse lake with carp to 25lb and tench to 6lb rather than a specimen water. Both lodges take dogs, and booking both gives your group sole use of the lake.

Residents-Only Lakes With No Day Tickets

Here you share the lake with other guests, but not with day ticket anglers, so the banks stay quiet.

Common Questions About Private Fishing Lakes

What counts as a private fishing lake with accommodation?

On this page it means one of two things: a lake that comes with a single lodge, cabin or caravan, so only your party fishes it, or a lake fished only by the guests of a few units on site, with no day tickets. Booking every unit on a small site turns the second kind into the first.

How much does a private fishing lake holiday cost?

Prices are set by each venue and change by season, so check before you book. As examples, at the time of our September 2026 check Stenhill listed a low season week (November to March) at £799 against £1,799 for a high season week, and Blackthorn’s Pines Lake lodge listed summer weekends at £1,450 for up to four people. Splitting the cost between two or three anglers is common.

Can you night fish?

At most of the whole-lake venues, yes. Stenhill allows 24 hour fishing all year, and Opal Lakes, Countryside Cabins and Carp Cabin all allow night fishing. High Lodge Leisure does not, and at Mill Meadow it is by prior arrangement. Check each venue’s rules before you pack a bivvy.

Can I bring my dog?

Countryside Cabins and Carp Cabin each take up to two dogs free, Opal Lakes welcomes pets by request, and Waterside Fishing Lodges, Mill Meadow and Clovelly Lakes take dogs. Lakeview Lodge allows two for a charge. Stenhill, Blackthorn’s Pines Lake and High Lodge Leisure do not allow dogs.

Do I need a rod licence on a private lake?

Yes. An Environment Agency rod licence is required for freshwater fishing in England and Wales from age 13, on a private lake as anywhere else.
