What a Stay at Barbel Alley B&B Is Like
Barbel Alley B&B is in the hamlet of Hampton Loade, near Bridgnorth in Shropshire, about 150 metres from the River Severn. The River and Rail pub is about 300 metres down the lane, and a foot ferry crosses to the Unicorn Inn and the Severn Valley Railway on the opposite bank.
There are three rooms. Room 1 is a ground floor twin with an en-suite and its own entrance, at £90 single occupancy or £160 for two. Rooms 2 and 3, a first floor double and twin, share a bathroom at £85 single or £150 for two. Every room has a lockable shed for tackle, clothes and boots, and there is a patio and barbecue for guests.
Warning: barbel fishing can be very addictive.
Breakfast runs from 6.30am to 9am, with a sandwich and flask for anglers up from 5.30am. Coaching and guiding with the owner or Keenan, the local bailiff, costs £260 a day including the day ticket, packed lunch and bait. Serving members of the armed forces get 10% off.
