Our take

Hot tub lodges above a well kept match and carp fishery on the Welsh border. Wigmore Lakes has run as a fishery since 1997 on two former clay pits, one mostly carp and one a mixed match water, looked after by an on-site warden who is a keen match angler himself. The lodges have outdoor hot tubs and views over Duck Lake or the Shropshire Hills. Fishing is charged on top, so it suits couples and small groups wanting comfort with a pleasure or match session.

Good for

  • Couples wanting a hot tub and a rod
  • Match and pleasure anglers
  • A base between Shrewsbury and Welshpool

Think twice if

  • You expect fishing included: listings say charges apply
  • You need rules and prices in advance: check with the warden first

Call the warden before you fish

The fishery warden, Bob, is on 07790 637013 and can advise on which lake to fish and the current rules.
