Opal Lake Lodge is a single lodge in the Severn Valley about five minutes from Bridgnorth, and the lake beside it is entirely yours to fish while you stay. There are no day ticket anglers and no neighbouring swims.
Inside it is practical and warm: a double bed and a futon sofa bed, propane central heating and hot water, a high pressure shower and a kitchen with a fridge, microwave, air fryer and slow cooker. Power comes from solar panels and the toilet is a composting one, which is the part to know about before you book.
The lake beside the lodge is entirely yours to fish while you stay.
The fishing is a few steps from the door, from a surfaced platform next to the lodge. The lake was dug in 1990, averages five feet deep with a maximum just under eight, and holds around 60 carp to 28lb along with pike to 15lb, perch and chub. Night fishing is allowed.
Bridgnorth is close enough for supplies and a day out: the town is split between High Town and Low Town, linked by England's oldest and steepest inland electric funicular.
