There are lots of places of interest for tourists such as Cardiff Castle, Conwy Castle and the enchanting village of Portmeirion. For the keen walkers looking to explore, the National Parks of Snowdonia and Pembrokeshire are a must and lots more.

North Wales

Herons Lake Retreat – Caerwys, Flintshire – Dog Friendly* & Hot Tubs!*

Set in the hills of North Wales ‘Herons Lake Retreat’ is in a truly breath-taking location between 2 lakes, streams and is surrounded with miles of picturesque woodland and rolling hills. The family run business has a huge selection of beautiful lodges to choose from and it is serenity and relaxation personified. All of the lodges are fully equipped with self-catering kitchens and the luxury of a private hot tub for you to unwind and immerse yourself in the setting. Some of the lodges welcome pets, which is great if you fancy exploring Snowdonia National Park. Facilities are good, with an onsite shop selling everything you might need and Bodnant Gardens and the Great Orme Tramway are nearby.

Rules: The main ones are barbless hooks only and at least a 9lb mainline. The information about the fish in the lake is slightly lacking on the website and in the reviews. Mixed carp to around 12lb is my judgement from what I have seen.

As you can see from the map above lodges 1,2 and 3 are around the larger fishing lake. Lodges 24 & 27 are on the smaller fishing lake with lodge 26 very close to the water.

Bron Eifion Lodges, Criccieth, Lakeside Lodges

‘Bron Eifion’ is in Criccieth and is close to Snowdonia National Park and the Lleyn Peninsula. There are 9 self-catering log cabins, which are perched on the edge of a 6-acre lake set amongst 40 acres of stunning, deep woodland. Outstanding views of the heavenly surroundings can be seen from all of the lodges and all have been completed to a high standard. The lodges are fully equipped, with bed linen provided and there is also wheelchair access. ‘Glaslyn’ lodge also boasts a private hot tub. This tranquil escape is in a great location for exploring the local surroundings and is a perfect spot for anglers. Some of the cabins are pet friendly.

The site appears to have been a match fishing day ticket alke before the lodges were installed.

Lakehouse Holiday Cottages, Anglesey

Located on the Isle of Anglesey, North Wales, ‘Lakehouse Holidays’ has 3 charming 4* holiday cottages and a deluxe caravan. There are 2 lakes on the resort, which all of the cottages and caravan have an outstanding view of. ‘Ty Llyn’ has 3 bedrooms and a hot tub and the other 2 cottages and caravan sleep 4 people. The site is a calm retreat, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and the comfortable accommodation is equipped with everything you might need for a short break. Free fishing is included for one person, if you book a 7-night stay and it is all completely dog friendly, disabled access is also available. Although this is not a lodge we included it due to is accessibility.

South Wales Fishing Lodges

Cefn Mably Lakes, near Cardiff

‘Lodge on a lake’ is based at Cefn Mably Lakes and is only 6 miles away from the bustling city of Cardiff where there is an abundance of shops, restaurants and bars. The resort is set on a family farm and is for couples only. However, a brand-new family cabin is opening in 2024. Each stylish cabin is contemporary and finished to an exceptionally high standard, with free Wifi and a private hot tub, some are also welcoming to small dogs. Facilities are fantastic and there is an onsite shop selling groceries, wine and beer and there is also an excellent tackle shop within the resort. There are more lakes to fish, if you wish and there is the facility to hire bikes, should you fancy an adventure. There are now 12 lodges on site with selected lodges having a privet fishing peg from decking as shown below. One of the lodges is suitable for families.
